The cage must be spacious enough especially if you bought a pair or a baby hamster that may be small at first but will soon grow bigger as it matures. A hamster’s teeth continually grow and they need to constantly gnaw at something or their teeth will grow so large enough to prevent them from closing their mouth. If this happens they will starve to death.
Your pet will also need water so keep a constant fresh supply ready for them everyday. It is much preferable to place the water inside a water bottle hanging on the side of the cage. This method keeps the cage clean and lessens the likelihood of substrates mixing with water.
It is also important to provide the hamsters with materials needed for the construction of a nest. They are shy creatures and will need some rooms for privacy. Having access to supplies certainly makes caring for them much easier.
